Messy Divorce: OBJ Blames Mama Iyabo, Orji Kalu For His Woes-PM News

January 16, 2008
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has blamed his former wife, Oluremi Akinlawon a.k.a. Mama Iyabo for his current woes regarding the messy divorce between his son Gbenga and his wife, Moji.

Oluremi is the mother of Senator Iyabo Obasanjo and Gbenga, Obasanjo’s first son.

Gbenga had accused his father of sleeping with his wife, Moji, before awarding her NNPC contract in an affidavit he submitted to a Lagos High Court in connection with his divorce suit.

Sources told P.M.News that the embattled former President is blaming Oluremi for being the one goading Gbenga to embark on the smear campaign against him.

It was gathered that all has not been well between Obasanjo and Oluremi since they separated many years ago. And the latest divorce saga is said to be a fallout of the frosty relationship between the retired general and his former wife.

Sources also said Obasanjo is equally blaming the former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu for masterminding the affidavit Gbenga submitted in the court.

The damaging affidavit Gbenga submitted at the High Court was first published on the website of Sahara reporters.com and then published in last Sunday’s edition of TheSun newspaper.

The Sun was founded by Kalu.

Kalu had a running battle with Obasanjo while they were still in power, to the extent that Obasanjo revoked the licence granted Slok Airlines and other businesses Kalu had with NNPC.

Kalu, currently being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged corrupt enrichment, had on several occasions in the past accused Obasanjo of corruption and many believe that the fact that The Sun published the divorce story may not be unconnected with Kalu’s desire to take his pound of flesh from Obasanjo who appears to be his sworn enemy.

Because of the animosity between Obasanjo and Kalu, the former Abia State governor decided to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under whose platform he was elected governor in 1999 and 2003.

Kalu and others formed Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) of which he is now the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT).
