Obi, former Governor of Anambra State, recently condemned the demolition of structures along the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, describing the project as a "misplaced priority in the face of pressing national challenges."
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has attacked the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, for criticising Tinubu’s government over the demolition of structures on the path of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
Obi, former Governor of Anambra State, recently condemned the demolition of structures along the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, describing the project as a "misplaced priority in the face of pressing national challenges."
Obi, who said that it was not too late to discontinue the project in order to focus on other pressing issues in the country, also identified several road construction projects abandoned across the country, saying that many of them might not be completed in 30 years.
He expressed deep concerns over what he described as the insensitivity displayed by President Tinubu-led Nigerian government.
Obi highlighted the devastating impact of the project’s initiation on businesses and residences located in the designated right-of-way and lamented the destruction of livelihoods, the waste of lifetime investments, and the loss of jobs as bulldozers tore down affected areas.
Reacting to Obi’s criticism, Onanuga in a post on X platform on Wednesday said that the former Anambra governor was "an incurable hypocrite for attacking the President" over the project while in his time as the governor, he demolished structures of Anambra residents for construction of roads without paying them compensation.
Onanuga said, “Peter Obi is an incurable hypocrite. As governor of Anambra, he demolished houses to build roads and refused to pay compensation.
“Today, Obi is attacking the Tinubu government for demolishing structures standing on the path of Lagos-Calabar superhighway.”
